The Guedes Award is presented each year in memory of an extraordinary woman, Catherine Guedes.
The Guedes family moved from Canada to Clinton Township in 1993.
Cathy was quick to volunteer and become a Den Leader and Advancement Chair for Pack 248.
She loved the outdoors and inspired the boys to “Do their best.”.
She continually motivated her den, parents, and other leaders to stretch their capabilities and go the extra mile. No task was too overwhelming for Cathy. In addition to her leadership, she organized the first Pack/Troop campout helping the boys transition from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.
When her sons became Boy Scouts, Cathy continued her active involvement at the Troop level. Along with her eager participation with the Scouts, she became Treasurer of the rapidly growing Troop 248.
On September 28, 1999 Cathy lost her battle with cancer.
Faced with the loss of a remarkable mother, friend, and leader, Troop 248 created the Guedes Award. Recipients chosen for this special award reflect Cathy’s spirit and enthusiasm for the Scouts and the Scouting program.
In her memory this award is given as a reminder of the dedication of a woman who touched and inspired so many lives. The past recipients are: |
